How much storage will I need for film scanning?
This depends on a number of factors including the resolution you are
scanning to (e.g. video or data), the type of work you are doing (e.g.
commercial or long-form), your workflow (e.g. disk to disk colour
grading or grading to tape) amongst other factors.
The following table will give you some idea of the amount of
storage (in Megabytes, Gigabytes and Terabytes) required for storing
DPX 10bit LOG files at different resolutions (SD, 1K, HD, 2K and 4K)
per Frames, Second, Minute and Hour. This should help you work out just
how much storage you will need.
This information is also available from Cintel in a handy business-card sized Data Reference Card.
