The Bigger Picture
Film is still the best possible image data capture medium and the most durable of formats. It will be here for many years to come and will complement alternative image capture technologies and outlive other storage formats. However, there is a growing demand to convert material into a suitable format for the digital domain. In post production, this might be to achieve exacting colour manipulation, for the addition of special effects, subtitling, or other forms of editing, all working towards the desired look of the finished product.
Digital mastering, post production and distribution is driving the approach to film production through rapid and exciting changes. Technological breakthroughs are enhancing the creative possibilities of this move towards, what is commonly becoming known as, Digital Intermediate. Whilst rising to the challenges presented, Cintel are discovering new avenues of development that often exceed the initial expectation. Film scanning is the first step in the digital chain of events.
